U.S. Tobacco Cooperative Inc., a Raleigh, N.C.-based grower-owned tobacco products marketing cooperative, filed for chapter 11 protection today in the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, along with five affiliates, including Premier Manufacturing Inc., which produces consumer tobacco products under the brand names of Manitou, 1839, 1st Class, Shield, Traffic, Ultra Buy and Wildhorse. The company reports $100 million to $500 million in both assets and liabilities. The debtors are represented by Hendren, Redwine & Malone in Raleigh.
